Dedicated Licensed Dementia Unit (Level-III)

Colonial Place recognizes the special needs of people with memory impairments. Our units were designed around those special needs. Providing care for seniors with dementia can be challenging. Our staff is trained to help manage the needs of these residents. It becomes our business to know each resident as an individual.

Colonial Place accentuates this individuality and focuses on appropriate activities. We do this by addressing the ever-changing needs and challenges the resident experiences. Through structured programs, we maximize their remaining abilities to carry out activities of daily living.

Colonial Place's Dedicated Dementia Unit has 23 beds and provides continuous, professional care for our residents. This unit has been designed for dementia care.
It is a "house" with an atmosphere that you would expect to find in your own home. A four-season interior court (walking path) overlooks and provides access to a secured garden area and covered porch. The garden provides seasonal opportunities or activities for the residents to enjoy sunshine, fresh air, gardening, walking, and generally all of the sights, sounds, and aroma of the outdoors. Our facility is designed to be quiet and free from distractions, which reduces anxiety and fear for the resident. This unit is equipped with the latest in security technology.

Staff:

Colonial Place provides 24-hour professional and trained direct care staff. Our caregivers are able to deal with the ever-changing abilities of an Alzheimer's resident in a homelike atmosphere. We not only work with our residents in activities of daily living, we are also ever mindful of their individuality. Their personal traits and identity are addressed on a daily basis. Our staff provides as much one to one involvement as necessary to give the residents a sense of accomplishment and independence. It is not unusual for the staff to be perceived as a member of the resident's family, rather than just a caregiver.
The core of our care giving consists of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, a coordinator, a social worker and direct care staff specifically trained in Alzheimer's care. Speech, occupational and physical therapists are available as needed to complete all aspects of care for the cognitively impaired.
